Fried Boiled Eggs, Soba Noodle Salad and Rainbow Salad with Shrimps

Fried Boiled Eggs

Fried Boiled Egg

Do you know boiled egg is one of the best for deep frying especially without batter?  Yes, it is.  Boiling makes the eggs impenetrable to oil.  Frying makes it a tad crispy outside.  The result: A contrast of soft, smooth interior to yummily rough exterior.  Bet that you have never had eggs like these.

Soba Noodle Salad

Soba Vegetarian Noodle Salad

Substitutes yellow noodle from our noodle salad with Soba.  Makes Soba sexier.  Makes our noodle salad even more nutritious and more fiber.

Rainbow Salad with Shrimp

Rainbow Salad with Shrimps

Rainbow Salad usually is a vegetarian dish.  That was how one of the Burmese lady street vendor had always served in Rangoon, Burma until she decided to surprise me.  She asked if I wanted to add shrimps out of the blue.  I said, “Huh?” and with hesitation, “Sure, I try it”.  To my surprise, my favorite Rainbow Salad showed me another side that I had not known.  Thought that you might want to try too.

Monpetok – Sweet Rice and Coconut Pyramids – Great Burmese Dessert

Monpetok
Monpetok Burmese Dessert Sweet Rice and Coconut Pyramids

We just add Monpetok, a dessert that is popular in Burma.  As a matter of fact, some Burmese has not had or seen them for a while.  When I showed a Monpetok to a Burmese family stopping by to inquire about it, I saw their eyes lit up and I heard them said, “Yes!!!”.  They acted as if they had found their long lost friend.  Monpetok is made with sweet rice and tapioca.  With proper kneading, it possesses what some call, “QQ Texture”.  The filling is made with coconut and sugar which are caramarized to add an addicted flavor to the dessert. Banana leaf is used both to impart a banana flavor and to wrap the dessert for steaming til it done.  Besides, it is a natural compostable wrapping. You can enjoy them as dessert in Burma Cafe or buy them in 50′s or 100′s for family and friends to enjoy.
